Can twitter go from niche to mainstream in the US?

Twitter usage had risen from 8% of US internet users in fall 2010 to 13% in May 2011, a 62.5% increase in penetration according to an annoucement by the Pew Internet & American Life Project this month. Twitter usage does seem to be growing, but is a bump like that sizeable enough to take it from niche to mainstream?

The Facebook Generation Gap

People in their 20’s have 50 times more friends on Facebook than people over 50 years old.

 The ‘Facebook generation gap’ has been highlighted in a new piece of research which shows that the average 22 year-old claims to have 1,000 or more friends on sites like Facebook compared to those in their fifties who have fewer than 20.

The latest installment in this vein is “The Offline Social Network.” This clip comes from Australian comedy show Hungry Beast and personifies the ubiquitous Facebook as the sort of earnest evangelicals who ask passers-by about the eventual destination of their eternal souls.

People Blaming Facebook for Divorces
