Texting while driving kills more U.S. teens than drunk driving

Texting behind the wheel is much more dangerous than driving drunk because of the frequency in which teenagers send texts verses how often they drink.

A new study has found that texting while driving has now replaced drunk driving as the number one cause of teenage deaths on the road in the U.S.

3D printers will change the future of manufacturing

How do we prepare for this manufacturing revolution in the making?

You can now print your own gun. And there are plenty of ways to do so, legal and otherwise. A group called Defense Distributed offered you a new one last week: It published instructions for creating a plastic firearm using a 3-D printer. One guy even fired a real bullet with it.

New wave of cyberattacks against U.S. corporations

The new attacks seek to destroy data or to manipulate industrial machinery and take over or shut down the networks that deliver energy or run industrial processes.

Warnings from federal officials, including a vague one issued last week by the Department of Homeland Security, are being prompted by a new wave of cyberattacks that are striking American corporations.  Officials say this time the attackers’ aim is not espionage but sabotage, and the source seems to be somewhere in the Middle East.

Google Glass-wearing gamblers will be banned at Caesars Palace

Gamblers at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas will not be allowed to wear Google Glass.

Caesars Palace, the world famous Las Vegas casino, has confirmed that patrons won’t be allowed to wear Google Glass when gambling. Previous statements had indicated that the heads-up display would be permitted on the casino floor as long as it wasn’t being used to film. However, a Caesars Palace representative said that there would indeed be a Glass ban for gamblers in accordance with Nevada state laws.

Is anonymity mathematically impossible because of big data?

The more data there is, the less any of it can be said to be private.

The European Union introduced privacy legislation  in 1995. The legislation defined “personal data” as any information that could identify a person, directly or indirectly. The legislators were apparently thinking of things like documents with an identification number, and they wanted them protected just as if they carried your name.
