How AI Is Being Used to Create the Ultimate Choose Your Own Adventure Game

The text-based RPG is one of gaming’s oldest genres. Thanks to AI, gamers are bringing it back.

AI Dungeon is a choose-your-own-adventure game that uses natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to generate interactive stories. According to Nick Walton, the game’s creator and CEO of Latitude, “The AI in AI Dungeon is based on the GPT-3 model, which is one of the most advanced language models available today.”

In an interview with IGN, Walton explained how AI Dungeon generates its stories: “The player inputs a prompt for the story, and the AI generates a response that continues the story. The AI uses a neural network trained on a massive dataset of text to generate these responses. The game also allows the player to make choices at various points in the story, which can influence the direction the story takes. The AI then generates new responses based on these choices.”

To improve the game’s story generation capabilities, the developers of AI Dungeon have used machine learning techniques. Walton stated that “We’ve trained the AI on specific genres, such as sci-fi or fantasy, to generate more immersive stories in those genres. We’ve also experimented with different reward systems to encourage the AI to generate more interesting and coherent stories.”

ChatGPT Gives Humanoid Robot Ability to Speak in Multiple Languages

Engineered Arts is using the technology to teach its robot new language skills

ChatGPT, a language model developed by OpenAI, is being used to give humanoid robots the ability to speak in multiple languages. The technology, which is being developed by a team at the University of Southern California, allows robots to understand and respond to natural language input in real-time.

Using ChatGPT, the researchers have developed a system that enables robots to generate human-like responses to spoken language. The system can translate between languages on the fly, allowing the robot to converse with people who speak different languages.

The researchers believe that this technology could have a range of applications, from customer service to healthcare. For example, a robot equipped with this technology could provide medical advice to people in different countries, or assist tourists in navigating foreign cities.

Model created using AI and tweets to help early detection of mental disorders

A new study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research has found that an AI model, created using tweets, can help in the early detection of mental disorders. The model was developed by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, and it uses machine learning algorithms to analyze the language used in tweets.

The researchers collected tweets from Twitter users who had disclosed their mental health status in their bios or in their tweets. They then used the tweets to train a machine learning model to recognize patterns in the language used by people with mental disorders. The model was trained on data from over 6,000 Twitter users.

The study found that the model was able to accurately predict mental disorders in users based on their tweets. The researchers hope that the model can be used to help in the early detection of mental disorders, as well as to develop targeted interventions for people with mental health issues.

Seismic signals: Can data-crunching AI warn us of imminent eruptions?

A still taken from a tourist boat when Whakaari/White Island erupted in December 2019.

According to Dr. Ian Main, a professor at the University of Edinburgh, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics can be used to detect patterns in seismic signals that may indicate an imminent volcanic eruption.

Dr. Main stated, “Volcanoes give off signals before they erupt, and these signals are detectable in the form of seismic waves. By analyzing these waves using AI and machine learning techniques, we can identify patterns that may be missed by the human eye.”

Dr. Main’s team has been working with the New Zealand research institute GNS Science to apply AI to seismic data collected from Mount Ruapehu, a volcano located on New Zealand’s North Island.
