Livestock consumption of antibiotics reached a record nearly 29.9 billion pounds in 2011.
The Food and Drug Administration, last year, proposed a set of voluntary “guidelines”designed to nudge the meat industry to curb its antibiotics habit. Since then, the agency has been mulling whether and how to implement the new program. Meanwhile, the meat industry has been merrily gorging away on antibiotics—and churning out meat rife with antibiotic-resistant pathogens—if the latest data from the FDA itself is any indication.

The New York Times has been under constant attack from Chinese Hackers for four months and they have gone public with the story. The Chinese hackers got wind that the Times was was preparing to reveal that Prime Minister Wen Jiabao’s family acquired $2.7 billion in assets.

If anybody has the right to tell people “I told you so,” it’s Nina E. Olson, the national taxpayer advocate. She recently submitted her annual report to Congress and top on her list of things that need to be fixed is the complexity of the tax code, which she called the most serious problem facing taxpayers.

Beijing, China is frequently shrouded in dense, yellowish smog so thick that the other side of the road is obscured. According to an announcement this week, the FBI arrested 10 people associated with the a crime ring pushing the malware Yahos. The malware has affected over 11 million people. Facebook’s security team helped the FBI by identifying both the criminals and the victims.
