File sharing now a religion in Sweden

Pirates and file-sharers, rejoice! The Missionary Church of Kopimism (just say it out loud) has been recognized as a religion in Sweden:

Since 2010 a group of self-confessed pirates have tried to get their beliefs recognized as an official religion in Sweden. After their request was denied several times, the Church of Kopimism – which holds CTRL+C and CTRL+V as sacred symbols – is now approved by the authorities as an official religion. The Church hopes that its official status will remove the legal stigma that surrounds file-sharing.

All around the world file-sharers are being chased by anti-piracy outfits and the authorities, and the situation in Sweden is no different. While copyright holders are often quick to label file-sharers as pirates, there is a large group of people who actually consider copying to be a sacred act…

Stone Age temple found in Orkney is 800 years older than Stonehenge

Stonehenge may not have been the centre of Neolithic culture after all.

A 5000-year-old temple in Orkney could be more important than Stonehenge, according to archaeologists.
The site, known as the Ness of Brodgar, was investigated by BBC2 documentary A History of Ancient Britain, with presenter Neil Oliver describing it as ‘the discovery of a lifetime’.

So far the remains of 14 Stone Age buildings have been excavated, but thermal geophysics technology has revealed that there are 100 altogether, forming a kind of temple precinct…

Occupy Wall Street reporter to utilize drones to prevent brutality

Drones can be used for many things.

From whaling wars to military wars, surveillance drones are everywhere — including the Occupy movement. But it’s not the police employing these unmanned machines — it’s reporters like Tim Pool, an American journalist best known for his 21-hour marathon of live-streamed coverage of the Occupy Wall Street eviction, which occurred in New York City on November 15.

Despite a media ban on the raid, Pool was able to single-handedly report on events on the ground that day, using little else than a smartphone and donated batteries…

Amazon sent out a press release titled, “2011 is the Best Holiday Ever for Kindle” and looking at the numbers, it seems like a justified statement.

The company reports that there were over a million Kindle devices sold each week, with the Kindle Fire as the hottest item, the Kindle Touch following it up, and the plain old Kindle bringing up the rear…
