Working out of an office on the 82nd floor of the Empire State Building, an office provided by RCA, Armstrong was on the verge of revolutionizing the radio industry. Despite slow economy concert business is booming

Bono and his U2 bandmates have pulled in $85.8 million on their 360 tour.

The concert touring business is enjoying a healthy comeback this year after struggling in 2010.  Despite the slow economy acts like U2, Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga are bringing in concert goers.

A patent office expansion to Denver might serve as a magnet for companies looking to be near the new offices.

The U.S. patent office plans its first expansion beyond the nation’s capital and they have Denver, Silicon Valley and Austin, Texas envisioning the next Research Triangle and an accompanying jobs windfall.

France launches €10 Billion offshore wind project (1,200 turbines & 10,000 jobs!)

The French government of Nicolas Sarkozy has launched a €10 billion ($14.26 billion) tender to build about 1,200 wind turbines in 5 different offshore wind farms. The goal is to diversify France’s energy generation (they are very reliant on nuclear, which accounts for about 80% of their electricity generation) with renewable sources and to have 23% of France’s energy come from renewable sources by 2020. The wind farms will be located off France’s coast on the North and West and should produce about 3.5% of the country’s electricity according to government authorities. The farms should come online between 2015-2020…

‘The start-up of you’ – Reinventing yourself in the ever changing job market

Employers are looking for people who can invent, adapt and reinvent their jobs every day, in a market that changes faster than ever.

The rise in the unemployment rate last month to 9.2 percent has Democrats and Republicans reliably falling back on their respective cure-alls. It is evidence for liberals that we need more stimulus and for conservatives that we need more tax cuts to increase demand. I am sure there is truth in both, but I do not believe they are the whole story. I think something else, something new — something that will require our kids not so much to find their next job as to invent their next job — is also influencing today’s job market more than people realize.

10 U.S. cities that will take 10 years to recover from the recession

Reno’s economy relies on gaming and tourism, two industries which have been hit extremely hard by the recession.

December 2007 is when the Great Recession officially began and it officially ended in July 2009. But that doesn’t mean the economy has returned to where it was before the steepest downturn since the Great Depression and may not for years. Employment is not expected to return to its pre-recession peak until 2014, according to a recent report by IHS Global Insight.

The poor economy lingers and the jobless rate remaining high.

States will start a nationwide crackdown for people fraudulently drawing unemployment payments.  $17 billion in were dswindle last year alone  from those who were never eligible and workers who keep getting checks after they return to work,  say federal officials.
