Mobile video viewing increased 719% between 2011 and 2013: Ooyala

Mobile viewership will double by end of 2015.

TV isn’t just a box in the living room anymore, it also includes smartphones and tablets. A new report from video services company Ooyala provides more evidence of that trend. By analyzing viewing data from 200 million people, the Global Video Index report found mobile and tablet viewing increased 719% from 2011 to 2013. In 2013 alone, the share of videos watched on mobile phones increased by 10 times.

70 percent of America’s silent films are lost forever: Study

Mary Pickford’s movies survive because she owned them, and donated them to the Library of Congress in 1946.

Seventy percent of America’s silent films are lost and most of the remaining ones are in great shape, according to a study conducted by the Library of Congress. Only about 3,300 of the 11,000 films made before “talkies” are left. Of those, 17 percent are incomplete, and some, like the only missing Greta Garbo feature, The Divine Woman, are down to a single remaining reel. What happened?

Warner Bros. will offer fans digital blueprints of “The Key to Erebor” to help market he Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.  “The Key to Erebor” is a key item from the series, which fans can 3D print on their own or send to a company like Shapeways to print for them.
