This dog food commercial has sounds only a dog can hear

dogfooddogcommerciallll

What’s that sound?

Commercials have become so effective at focusing on what us human people want that we can’t stop watching them. Oh scantily clad women. Oh short attention spans. Dogs can join in the braindead fun now too, there’s a commercial made with sounds only a dog can hear…

Could Alzheimer’s be transmissible?

The brain damage that characterizes Alzheimer’s disease may originate in a form similar to that of infectious prion diseases such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow) and Creutzfeldt-Jakob, according to newly published research by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

The billion dollar ALMA observatory can spot a golf ball from 15 Kilometers

ALMA

The windswept, sunburned Chajnantor plateau in Chile rises 16,500 feet above sea level and has some of the driest air on Earth. That makes it the perfect location for the world’s biggest, most sensitive, and most complex ground-based telescope…

Humans are still evolving: study

wingman

Even though humans are still evolving, don’t expect any winged mutants.

On TV shows like “Heroes” and movies like “X-Men, ordinary people seem to evolve to have extraordinary capabilities. But people in real life don’t have genetic mutations that give rise to extraordinary capabilities such as telepathy or wings.  But human evolution is still happing according to scientists.  Proceedings of the National Academy of Science has published a new study that offers some if the best evidence so far.

When foreclosure isn’t the end of the nightmare

Foreclosureeeeee

Foreclosure may not be enough any more.

An underwater homeowner decides to walk away from his house, which then goes into foreclosure. The bank takes the house and then sells it. End of story, right?

Maybe not. Some banks are suing “strategic defaulters” for the amount of money they lost!

Joseph Reilly lost his vacation home here last year when he was out of work and stopped paying his mortgage. The bank took the house and sold it. Mr. Reilly thought that was the end of it.

In June, he learned otherwise…

Gravitational waves that are ‘Sounds of the Universe’

gravity 111003094408-large

This is a simulation of matter ejected from a star merger.

Einstein wrote about them, and we’re still looking for them — gravitational waves, which are small ripples in the fabric of space-time, that many consider to be the sounds of our universe. Just as sound complements vision in our daily life, gravitational waves will complement our view of the universe taken by standard telescopes.

Albert Einstein predicted gravitational waves in 1918. Today, almost 100 years later, advanced gravitational wave detectors are being constructed in the US, Europe, Japan and Australia to search for them…

magic shrooms personality study

New value found in psilocybin activities.

A single high dose of the hallucinogen psilocybin, the active ingredient in so-called “magic mushrooms,” was enough to bring about a measurable personality change lasting at least a year in nearly 60 percent of the 51 participants in a new study, according to the Johns Hopkins researchers who conducted it…

Is digital money the new way to buy drugs?

amazonkindlelines2345

Are ones and zeros gonna pay for doobies and lines now?

I’m not gonna name names, but someone just mentioned paying for weed with a Square account. It’d be equally easy to use Paypal, Venmo, Bitcoin (RIP) or any of the myriad mobile payment systems that allow you to send money from your phone…

Easily embarrassed? Study finds people will trust you more

embarrassing monkey 123321

Embarrassment can have an advantage.

If tripping in public or mistaking an overweight woman for a mother-to-be leaves you red-faced, don’t feel bad. A new study from the University of California, Berkeley, suggests that people who are easily embarrassed are also more trustworthy, and more generous…

12 Books that have (ironically) been banned in the U.S.

banned ChildrensDisplays003

September 24th through October 1st is Banned Books Week.

Talk about an easy subject to research! It might have been easier to write up a “books that have never been banned anywhere” list. The banning of books seems so ridiculous, simplistic, and stupid to most of us. But man, in all his Jeckyll and Hyde glory, will all-too-often, when trying to solve a problem, come up with a solution much worse. This is “the 29th annual Banned Books Week” The week is used to condemn censorship and “thought police.”

O.K., let’s take a look at a brief (in the scheme of these things) list of books that have been (ironically) banned here in the U.S….
