Mobile learning game market will grow from $1.5 billion to $2.3 billion by 2017

A new research report by Ambient Insight finds that educational games, also known as “serious games,” are going through a renaissance in part because of the acceptance of learning apps on mobile devices.

The micropublishing explosion

Micropublishing is one of the most significant publishing trends of 2013.

Marco Arment announced last week that he sold The Magazine to the minimalist iOS publication’s executive editor, Glenn Fleishman. Arment said he had accidentally built a business he was ill-suited to running. “Glenn’s doing almost everything already, so I’m effectively a figurehead,” he said.

Apple unveils top iPhone and iPad apps of all time

Apple’s App Store launched nearly five years ago and they are counting down to the 50 billionth downloaded app. In celebration, the company will reward the person who downloads that app with a $10,000 App Store gift card. In line with this, Apple also revealed its updated lists of all-time top iPhone and iPad apps.

80,000 new jobs in the U.S. created by Apple’s iOS app economy in 2012

Apple’s iOS App Store has seen incredible growth and has doubled its payouts to developers (now totaling over $8 billion) and sparked the creation of over 80,000 new jobs directly related to building software for Apple’s mobile platform within the last year.

App activity by Facebook users shared more than 1 billion times each day

Platform is getting major results.

Facebook said users share their app activity more than one billion times each day using the social network. These include details like the music they’re listening to (done 40 billion times so far), their reading progress (shared 40 million times), and their fitness updates.
