YouTube videos account for 22% of all global mobile bandwidth consumed

Close to a quarter of all global mobile bandwidth is consumed by people watching YouTube videos, according to a new report from network management vendor Allot Communications. The Google-owned video site’s global bandwidth share was 22 percent in the first half of 2011, compared with just 17 percent in the first half of 2010. YouTube now accounts for 52 percent of all global mobile video streaming, according to Allot.

Are Search Engines changing the way our memory works?

If you can Google it, why bother remembering? Being able to access facts with just a few keystroke definitely improved our lives, but it has actually changed the way our memories work.

A study of 46 college students found lower rates of recall on newly-learned facts when students thought those facts were saved on a computer for later recovery.

If you think a fact is conveniently available online, then, you may be less apt to learn it…

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg now richer than Google founders

Mark Zuckerberg is worth $18 billion.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, has become richer than Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, thanks to GSV Capital Corp’s stake buy which values the popular social networking site at about $70 billion. Earlier this week GSV Capital Corp bought 225,000 shares in Facebook at an average price of $29.28 each.

Google adds speech recognition to its search engine

Speech recognition searches may take time for web users to get used to.

Asking a computer out loud for information is seen as a futurist idea right out of science fiction.  But Google is trying to change that.  They are adding speech recognition to its search engine which will release technology that will allow any browser, website, or app to use the feature.

Google activates 500,000 Android devices every day

 Android had become the most popular operating system among smartphone users in the United States.

The vice president for engineering at Google, Andy Rubin, said in a Twitter message Tuesday that the company was now activating over 500,000 Android devices each day.  Andy leads the company’s Google Android platform.

The Day that Google Died
