Populations in the north have evolved to cope with dull, cloudy skies and short periods of daylight.

Good news for people who are from the north: you are likely to have a bigger brain than your southern counterparts. Unfortunately, that doesn’t necessarily mean you are more intelligent than people from the south – just that you have evolved to cope with the longer winters and greyer skies in northern climates.

Scientists say time travel is impossible by showing a single photon cannot travel faster than the speed of light.

Physicists in Hong Kong say they have proved that a single photon obeys Einstein’s theory that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light — demonstrating that outside science fiction, time travel is impossible.

Teenagers exposed to second-hand smoke could suffer hearing loss

Scientists think second-hand smoke affects the blood supply to the inner ear.

According to research, teenagers exposed to second-hand smoke are twice as likely to suffer hearing loss.  The research findings add to the list of health problems already attributed to second-hand smoke, including increased risks of asthma, heart disease and lung cancer.

 The study found that children involved in car crashes with grandparent drivers had half the risk of being injured as kids riding with their parents.
