Lack of oxygen throughout the universe is one of the persistent challenges of manned space exploration. Trees and other plant life do us a real solid by taking in our bad breath and changing it back to clean, sweet O2 here on Earth. (Video)

It’s amazing how quickly additive manufacturing technology has been progressing. Laser sintering of metals within the manufacturing industry was a process used by only a few companies, mostly in a research capacity, just a few years ago. Now numerous companies are using laser sintering additive manufacturing machines to print extremely important metal components for a variety of products, from airliners to race cars.

Smartphones to replace room keys at Hilton hotels

The new smartphone key feature will arrive in six hotels in 2015.

Spurred by growing competition, Hilton has announced that its hotels will allow customers to take self-check-ins one step further, using their iPhone or Android handset as a room key. The feature won’t start arriving until 2015, but when it does, it’ll arrive at six of the company’s hotel brands.

Tesla Electric cars have the highest energy density battery in the world. That’s twice of the Nissan Leaf. But their range is more than twice that of the Leaf so we come into other factors: what’s the drag co-efficient of the car, how much does it weigh, what’s the efficiency of the motor and gearbox, what’s the rolling resistance? All those factors affect the range.
