Introducing the self-flying security guard

aptonomy_drone

Aptonomy Inc. has developed drone technology that could make prison breaks, robberies or malicious intrusions of any kind impossible for mere mortals.

Dubbing it a kind of “flying security guard,” the company has built its systems on top of a drone often used by movie-makers, the DJI S-1000+, a camera-carrying octocopter.

mine-kafon-drone-4

Designer and entrepreneur Massoud Hassani hopes to rid the planet of its estimated 100 million buried land mines within 10 years. That’s why several years ago, he developed the Mine Kafon – a device that rolls across minefields like a tumbleweed, tripping mines as it goes. Drones are fantastic as a hobby, however these small unmanned aerial vehicles pose a significant security threat when they fall into the wrong hands. A single weaponized drone is bad enough, but drone swarms are a security nightmare for military officials. Drones are difficult to spot when approaching, tough to follow on radar, and cannot be easily shot down using conventional weapons. In order to combat this potential threat, Lockheed Martin has developed a laser-based weapon that’ll blow such drones out of the sky.
