The US Central Command (Centcom) has purchased software that creates false online personalities for what it calls “information operations.”
Using the software, one member of the U.S. Military can control up to ten different fake accounts that appear to belong to civilians living in other countries. The government purchased the software from California-based Ntrepid for $2.76 million.
“If reading becomes dependent on technology that must be purchased, then I think we may see the literacy divide persist and even widen.”
The rapid rise of e-books could lead to a “reading divide” as those unable to afford the new technology are left behind, even as U.S. reading and writing skills decline still further.

Washington D.C. is the most socially networked city in America.
A new survey released by Men’s Health magazine names the top socially networked cities in America. The top spot goes to Washington D.C., a city where staying connected can get out the vote, and virtual handshakes help shape our nation. D.C. ranked above Atalnta, Ga., Denver, Colo., and Minneapolis, Minn. Palo Alto, Calif., home to Facebook, did not even make the list of 100 cities.
