Junk food does not cause obesity in middle school students.

Kids who attend schools that sell junk food such as soda and doughnuts do not gain more weight than students who attend schools where that type of food isn’t available, according to a new study of nearly 20,000 middle schoolers.

U.S. cancer rates continue falling: American Cancer Society

Advances in cancer screening and treatment have prevented more than a million total deaths from cancer since the early 1990s.

U.S.cancer death rates are continuing to fall, dropping by 1.8 percent per year in men and 1.6 percent per year in women between 2004 and 2008, according to the American Cancer Society’s annual report on cancer statistics released on Wednesday.

Eating less turns on a molecule that helps the brain stay young.

Overeating can cause brain aging while eating less turns on a molecule that helps the brain stay young.  Researchers at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Rome have discovered that a molecule, called CREB1, is triggered by “caloric restriction” (low caloric diet) in the brain of mice. They found that CREB1 activates many genes linked to longevity and to the proper functioning of the brain.
