A politician from Italy’s hard-right governing party is pushing legislation to combat teens’ “addiction” to their phones.

The bill proposes courses in schools and a public awareness campaign, plus “re-education” in health centers for worst-case scenarios.

Oxford psychologist Andrew Przybylski said the proposed law was a bad idea, and pointed to tech “addiction boot-camps” in China.

Along an old highway that winds through the mountains in southern Italy, a series of huge concrete bridges will eventually be turned into vertically stacked neighborhoods–as long as the government can come up with the cash to build the project. (Pics)

Scientists in Italy Claim to Have Demonstrated Cold Fusion

Few areas of science are more controversial than cold fusion, the hypothetical near-room-temperature reaction in which two smaller nuclei join together to form a single larger nucleus while releasing large amounts of energy. In the 1980s, Stanley Pons and Martin Fleishmann claimed to have demonstrated cold fusion – which could potentially provide the world with a cheap, clean energy source – but their experiment could not be reproduced. Since then, all other claims of cold fusion have been illegitimate, and studies have shown that cold fusion is theoretically implausible, causing mainstream science to become highly speculative of the field in general.

‘Slow Uprising’ – Parasitic City Takes Over Italian Highway

 A region of souther Italy is currently calling for sustainable ideas on how to renovate or reuse a stretch of the Salemo-Reggio Calabria highway, located between Sicily and Bagnara, with a focus on implementing a renewable energy into the infrastructure. The old highway will be decommissioned and a new highway is set to be built nearby. Currently the jury is still in deliberation and a winner has yet to be decided for the Solar Park South, but being the sleuths that we are, we came across this fascinating proposal for a parasitic city set to take root on the foundations of the highway’s bridges. Although the proposal by Ja Studio Inc called ‘Slow Uprising’ doesn’t actually meet the requirements of the competition, we still love the idea of buildings sprouting on a bridge.

Angela Scognamiglio said she was “very moved” when she was named on Saturday night as the new “Miss Chubby” at the complex-free contest held in the Tuscany village of Forcoli, near the city of Pisa. “I am very moved, I feel as if I’ve won the lottery,” the 33-year-old from Naples said after beating out 30 other contestants for the title…

An Italian priest has developed an app that will let priests celebrate Mass with an iPad on the altar instead of the regular Roman missal.   The Rev. Paolo Padrini, a consultant with the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Social Communications, said Friday that the free application will be launched in July in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Latin.
