You really shouldn’t rush out and take on debt, but there are times when it actually makes sense not to pay it off.  All debt is not alike. Some of the worst kinds, such as unsecured credit card debt, can wreck your budget, but even there, you have cases where it won’t, and it could even work to your advantage. Other kinds of debt might seem imposing with those big red “Past Due” stamps but pose less of a threat to your financial future.

Could a Wearable UV Detector Prevent Skin Cancer?


The UV Dosimeter invented by Martin Allen in collaboration with Niwa and Canterbury University. It can be worn like a watch or pinned to clothing.

A small device to measure exposure to ultraviolet radiation could one day be sold to schools and researchers to help prevent skin cancer.  The UV Dosimeter, invented by Canterbury University computer engineer Martin Allen, can be worn like a wristwatch or pinned to different parts of the body.

The conceptual City Rack by designers Ilya Tkach and Nikita Gutsalenko has a lock built-in so your can secure your bike – rather than having to chain it up to whatever fence or post you find. It looks like several City Racks can be placed side-by-side, and that they work with a payment system, just like a car meter (though probably not with a time limit). The ring-shaped design of the City Rack’s lock allows you to shore up your bike from many different angles, so you can snag the frame and whichever tire you like.
