Social media has been purported to cause something that it doesn’t. Divorce is a perfect example of this. Because the divorce rate for people under 50 hasn’t demonstrably changed with the advent of social media, social media isn’t causing divorce.

Incredible 3D printed cityscape of Chicago

By now, most people know about 3D printing.  It has has become huge, and more and more companies are creating 3D printers that can perform the most ridiculous prints. Recently people in Chicago took the chance to try out this technology, and they started 3D printing the Chicago cityscape using Google Maps as the base for their models. (Photos)

DARPA unveils the Atlas DRC robot

Atlas

Meet Atlas, a massive humanoid robot was unveiled by DARPA at the headquarters of Boston Dynamics, just outside Boston. Atlas was built by Boston Dynamics for the DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC), whose goal is to advance disaster response robotics. The hope is that Atlas is the first step towards the day when robots, not humans, will be sent to help mitigate major catastrophes, such as the Fukushima nuclear accident. (Photos and video)

Scientists create battery using wood

University of Maryland engineers are currently working on a battery made of wood, an innovative, low-cost, environmentally friendly idea. The research team used tiny wood fibers from yellow pine trees to make test batteries — and we mean seriously tiny, the tree fibers are a thousand times thinner than a piece of paper. They use sodium rather than lithium, so the team imagines this battery working best in a large-scale environment, like for storing solar energy at a power plant.

Mobileye raises $400 million to help put self-driving cars on the road before Google

Mobileye is competing with Google in the space of driverless technology.

Mobileye, a self-driving car startup, announced the closing of a $400M financing round by firms BlackRock, Fidelity Management, Wellington Management, Sailing Capital and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The round makes Mobileye the highest valued, privately held tech company in Israel with a total market value estimated at $1.5B.

3D printed Barbie doll redesigned to look like a real 19-year-old girl

How old is Barbie?  Not in how many years she has existed but how old is she? She is a close to a 19-year-old girl, right? Everyone knows that a Barbie doll doesn’t look like a real person, but what you might not know is that in order for her proportions to be real; she would have to be an alien or some sort of half-human.  Diane Adams wrote about this a few months ago in her article,  Typical Barbie Body vs. Typical Real Woman Body.
