What’s a normal inbox?

Everyone spends way too much time on email, and everyone has their own strategies and techniques for dealing with the deluge. Usually those techniques are a melding of Web, desktop, and mobile tools that we find least objectionable. But the tools, tips and tricks that work for one person tend to work poorly for another. Products designed to “help” often are more of a hindrance and force the adoption of new workflows that run counter to years of training.

‘Anti-rape’ lingerie zaps attacker and automatically texts police for help

Engineering students have created underwear which gives any would-be attacker a 3,800 kilovolt shock.

One of the most brutal and heinous crimes imaginable is rape. An undergarment has been designed to disable the attacker with a powerful electric jolt, while letting the cops know where an attack has occurred using GPS coordinates sent by text message.

Tribine – agriculture’s latest breakthrough innovation

Grain harvesters have been called combines since the 1930’s. They were called combines because they combined the harvesting machines, the binder and the stationary threshing machine. The Tribine takes it one step further as it combines the two historic harvest functions with a third – the grain cart, according to Ben Dillon, the developer of the machine.

BionicOpter – a hyper-realistic dragonfly drone

The BionicOpter was created by German automation company Festo. It was designed to mimic the look and flying dynamics of a dragonfly. The 1.5-foot-long ultra-light flying robot operates via remote control from a smartphone and can maneuver and hover in place just like a real dragonfly. Each of the robot’s four wings operate independently using servo motors, allowing each wing to be twisted by up to 90 degrees. (Video)

Swarms of small robots could be the servants of the future

At the Sheffield Center for Robotics, jointly established by the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, researchers have been working to program a group of 40 robots, and say the ability to control robot swarms could prove hugely beneficial in a range of contexts, from military to medical.
