A Google TV Set-Top Box is Coming

googlebox2

We knew vaguely that Google was looking toward the living room, but the NYTimes has the details on Google TV, an ambitious platform to deliver web content to Android-based set-top boxes and TVs through partnerships with Sony, Intel, and Logitech.

Google hopes that the new platform will succeed where dozens of lesser efforts have failed—to truly and seamlessly integrate web content onto TVs, bringing services like Twitter and sites like YouTube, in addition to games, webapps, and, of course, Google’s search, to the big screen. The Google TV software reportedly includes a version of Google’s Chrome browser for doing some light surfing, as well.

A Watch That Shoots High Def Video

video watch hd 3421
For those of you who are dreaming about becoming the next James Bond, you’ll certainly be attracted to JTT’s WACAHD8GB wristwatch. It looks like your average wristwatch, but it it’s able to shoot 1280 x 960 resolution videos at 30fps, and you’ll also be able to take still shots that are just under 8-megapixels. While on paper it seems great, the quality of the images and videos taken show that the pictures have probably been interpolated (or stretched) to fit the resolution mentioned earlier…

Steve Wozniak Showing Off His NIXIE Tube Watch

The ultimate geek toy

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak shows us that a nixie tube watch is probably a better idea in theory than it is in practice. It’s so bulky. Sure looks like a lot of trouble he has to go through just to change the time zone. Never mind that, if they could just make these things a whole lot smaller, we’d really be lusting after one.
Woz also talks about how his fellow passengers start to get worried when he adjusts his nixie watch, which to the uninitiated might look like a crude bomb triggering device. Also of interest is how he can smuggle a ceramic knife on board an aircraft without being arrested. We weren’t aware he flew commercial.

Atmos Regulator Clock Powered By Temperature Change

Atmos Regulator Clock Powered By Temperature Change

Atmos Regulator Clock powered by temperature changes

Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces an Atmos Regulator clock in a limited series of 28 pieces created for Alfred Dunhill.  Inspired by regulators of former times, the Atmos Regulator displays hours and minutes on two separate dials. The movement – a Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 582 – appears to be suspended in mid-air.  Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Atmos clocks are powered by slight changes in temperature, needing no winding, electricity or batteries.

Akribos XXIV DaVinci Skeleton Steampunk Watch

akribossteampunk.jpg

I hesitate to call it steampunk, through the degradation of the term by people like me, but my attempts at describing it otherwise only end up being laughably convoluted loop-de-loops around the term. It reminds me very strongly of Disneyland Paris’ Space Mountain aesthetic, which is furnished after the spaceship design of Verne’s De la Terre à la Lune… all burnished brass and exposed copper cogwork. But, of course, that’s all very steampunk too.

Disposable Wrist Phone

Disposable Wrist Phone

 LG’s Wrist Phone

Having a cellphone necessarily brings with it the tough decision of where to carry the damn thing. That typically means bulging up a pocket, though at least women can often opt for tossing it in a handbag (but even that adds the rummaging-around step when you get a call). The disposable Wrist Phone makes where to put it an easy choice.
