Kindle Fire
According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the iPad is on top of the world now, accounting for 75% of all tablet sales in the U.S.
But not for long.
CultOfAndroid got a hold of some screenshots of Amazon’s internal ordering system, and they appear to show that the company is already taking 2,000 Kindle Fire pre-orders every hour.
That’s 50,000 a day, or 250,000 since the time it was announced last week. At the current rate, Amazon will have sold o2.5 million preorders by the time it actually goes on sale on November 15, and nearly 5 million by the end of the year.
By way of comparison, Apple sold almost 10 million iPads last quarter. Other tablets like RIM’s Playbook and the Motorola Xoom didn’t even pass the 500,000 mark in their first quarter on the market.
That said, the Kindle Fire seems to be cannibalizing the traditional Kindle: the Kindle Touch has only racked up about 20,000 pre-orders, and the Kindle Touch 3G about 12,000.
