iPhone 4 with JaTiKi Mount Part “A” (shown in anodized Blue)

The JaTiKi Mount is an innovative, first of its kind, multi-purpose mounting system for the iPhone 4/4s/5 and any other personal electronic device. By incorporating  powerful rare earth magnets, 1/4-20 threaded holes, and other CNC machined features into a two-disc mounting system, we have completely eliminated the need to wrap or add unnecessary bulk to the phone itself (like a case). If a phone never falls does it still need protection? We are not saying you will never drop your phone, but chances are drastically diminished with the JaTiKi Mount. Without a case on your phone, the JaTiKi delivers a high level of functionality while staying true to the aesthetics and function of devices such as the iPhone.

Recently, inventor Alan Bratton took a moment to answer some questions about  keeping your smartphone within reach at all times, gravitational annoyances and capturing 10% of the smartphone market…

What was the defining moment that led you to create this product? What problem does it solve?

After dropping my iPhone for the umpteenth time and having a distaste for bulky cases, I thought there must be a better way to keep your mobile device safe and secure while you use it during every day activities. The JaTiKi Mount was created to keep your smartphone within reach at all times, while being held securely in place until you need it. At home, in the car, at work, or just on the go, the JaTiKi Mount has you covered.

After you came up with the idea, how did you size up the market and decide who your customers would be?

In today’s world, Apple products have become trend-setters of the technology industry. Because of this, Gear By Geeks decided to focus on the Apple iPhone users with the JaTiKi Mount project. But the JaTiKi Mount can be used on any device for easy access.

How did you go about naming your product?

JaTiKi, as a word, has no actual meaning. It is as unique as the design of the JaTiKi Mount itself.

How long did it take you to create you initial prototype, and what problems did you run into along the way?

From the initial concept to the current prototype, it took nine months of designing, testing and refining multiple prototypes to get to the design we have today. We continue to look at ways in improving the current prototype.

Funding a new idea is always tricky. How did you go about lining up the money you needed?

All of the funding for the JaTiKi Mount has been self-financed. We recently launched a crowd funding campaign for the JaTiKi Mount on Kickstarter.com. We are also open to partnerships or licensing opportunities.

Is this a product you’d like to produce and sell yourself, or are you wanting to license it to someone else? And if so, who?

We would like to stay involved with the refinement of the JaTiKi Mount. But we would be interested in licensing to a smartphone case manufacturer or smartphone accessory manufacturer as well.

What all channels are you using to market your product?

We are currently taking pre-orders online through our webpage: www.gearbygeeks.com

How many people do you currently have involved in your business?

Currently, there are two people involved in the design of the JaTiKi Mount – an Industrial Designer and myself.

How do you define success? What would hitting a “home run” look like in your mind?

A “home run” would be capturing 10% of the smartphone market, either as a stand-alone product or integrated into a protective case.
