One of the most time-consuming (and necessary) parts of gardening is weeding. Thankfully, the guy who invented Roomba is on it. Meet Tertill.
iRobot alum Joe Jones’ startup, Franklin Robotics, has developed a prototype that can clean up your garden. Tertill uses solar power, sensors to identify obstacles, and a string trimmer to cut weeds. It’s set to launch in summer 2017 for $250. By then, it will also be able to wirelessly transmit data about plant and soil health to users’ smartphones, and will move and make noise when it senses foraging animals approaching.
According to MIT Technology Review, Tertill is not only a helpful robot, but part of Jones’ plan to “use robots to increase agricultural efficiency and, ultimately, ameliorate global food shortages.”
