An anonymous man in the U.S. received what was then the world’s largest 3D-printed skull implant a year ago. That record has just been broken. A 22-year-old Dutch woman has just received a transplant of her entire cranium in an operation that lasted an incredible 23 hours. (Video)

Ninety-three percent of Americans drive to work alone. So why use a car that’s big enough for four? A new vehicle that’s half-motorcycle and half-car is designed to replace sedans and SUVs on morning commutes and help save money and emissions in the process: The Elio costs $6,800 and gets 84 miles to the gallon. It’s possible to drive 672 miles on a single tank of gas. That’s the distance from New York City to Detroit.

Senior research scientist Patrick Gill, from the technology licensing company Rambus, took a photograph of a famous artwork with a lens-free camera that is smaller than a pencil point. Unlike traditional cameras that require lenses, the tiny camera could find a use in security systems, toys, and any other object that is too small for current camera technology.

Facebook and Internet.org revealed their intentions last week to connect the developing world through aerial drones and satellites. Their plans drew the inevitable comparisons to Google’s Project Loon, which would field fleets of balloons in the Earth’s stratosphere.
