Just like humans, whales also have “pop songs,” complete with music mania that sweeps across the ocean:

The findings are based on 11 years of recordings from underwater microphones slung over the sides of boats, which were collected by marine biologist Ellen Garland of the University of Queensland in Australia and colleagues. Picking out the patterns took a while; the team had to listen to 745 songs in total from six whale populations across the South Pacific over the 11-year period. The researchers identified 11 distinctly different styles (audio). Sometimes the “hit song” contained snippets from previous seasons, sometimes it was entirely revolutionary…

Energy Drinks Mixed with Alcohol Lead to More Risky Behavior: Study

Red Bull and vodka is riskier than just drinking alcohol.

Drinking the popular mix of Vodka and Red Bull is riskier than drinking alcohol alone, according to a new study.  Researchers found that while physical and mental impairment were no different with the combination, the feeling of intoxication was higher.

University of Hertfordshire Psychologist Prof Richard Wiseman has revealed the results of The Taste Test.  The Taste Test is a large-scale experiment to discover whether expensive wines are good value for money. The experiment involved over 400 members of the public tasting either an expensive or inexpensive wine.   Then they tried to tell which was which.  The experiment was carried out as part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival.

Grocery Meat Contains Some Bacteria That is Resistant to Antibiotics

High levels of bacteria in meat commonly found on grocery store shelves have been found by researchers.  According to a study released on Friday, more than half of the bacteria is resistant to multiple types of antibiotics.

Worldwide, more than 2 million babies are stillborn every year.  About half  of the babies born stillborn could be saved if their mothers had better medical care, according to researchers’ estimates.
