The Largest Gun ever built

big gun 23233

One big bang!

In 1939, Adolf Hitler needed to figure out how to get past the French Maginot line, a 1500km defensive wall of fortifications, tank barriers, artillery and machine gun nests running along the French-German and French-Italian borders. Before he figured out to simply run around the line via Belgium, Hitler schemed to destroy it outright…

E-Prime: The invented language that has no verb to be

E-Prime 56789

The E-Prime language promotes critical thinking.

To be or not to be … is not a question in the invented language of E-Prime. TopTenz explains:

Another language constructed to make a philosophical point, E-Prime is simply a version of English that forbids all forms of the verb ‘to be’ (is, was, were, etc).

According to Alfred Korzybski, who promoted the language in his 1933 book Science and Sanity, E-Prime can be used to sharpen critical thinking and make ideas clearer…

Anonymous has chosen to attack Monsanto and Oil Companies involved in the Tar Sands project in Canada.

The notorious activist hacking group “Anonymous” has launched two new campaigns championing a pair of green causes — helping U.S. farmers earn the right to label their food as “GMO-free” and working to obstruct the expansion of the devastating tar sands oil project in Alberta, Canada. Block-Access-chinese Websites-300x199

More than one million websites closed down in China last year, a state-run think tank has said.

China claims that they offer a “high level of freedom” for online speech. Hah! I don’t know what world they live in because in our world, the real world, China has shut down 1.3 million websites and routinely block websites.

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the state-run organization who reported the figure, also said that there were were 41% less websites at the end of 2010 than a year earlier. It’s like they don’t want the Internet to grow…

unicycle main 56789

All for one and one for all!

If you ever shied away from the challenge of a long distance bike trip, well here’s a trip that really isn’t for the faint of heart — or the unskilled.

Last summer, Adventure Unicyclist, Bike Asia and Grasshopper Adventures teamed up to host a tour of Mongolia by unicycle.

The 12-day tour (with seven days of one-wheeled biking) covered 150 miles and gave athletically inclined and adventure-tuned travelers a unique way to get from point A to point B, while creating quite the spectacle in pictures. The Monguni tour group jokingly claims that unicycling is only half as difficult as biking — you only have half as much to worry about…

Zappos ads use QR codes to dress naked women

Zappos-Image-Big-more than shoes

Zappos tickles your fancy while displaying their product line.

Zappos has launched an ad campaign that expands the definition of “interactive” — by using QR codes to let consumers dress naked models featured in print ads.

The ads, breaking later this month, seek to drive home the point that Zappos offers “more than shoes,” so that phrase is splashed across the otherwise nude women’s nether regions. The QR codes then lead to a website with a video showing what happened to the women after the ad. Consumers can choose an outfit for the women and go to Zappos to buy it…
