Alcohol may never look the same again.

This is what champagne looks like through a microscope. About twenty-five years ago, Michael Davidson, a scientist at Florida State University, started putting alcoholic beverages under his microscope and taking beautiful pictures of what he saw. The results are lovely, especially after a few shots…

Vending machine of the future

There’s the potential for the next generation of touchscreen LCD vending machines to be an all out assault on our senses. So here’s hoping more companies will take this subtly animated approach instead of horrifying advertisements.

This concept machine, created by Sanden, Okaya Electronics, and Intel, uses a monstrous 65 inch transparent HD display that still lets shoppers see the actual products being sold. And instead of just playing full screen commercials with music blaring, a series of simple silhouetted animations and menus are used to entice shoppers to give up their pocket change…

The Two-Year Sandwich

The military’s Meal Ready to Eat (M.R.E.), or those freeze-dried packages full of gummy pastes and freeze dried dreck that soldiers carry into the field is getting a much-needed upgrade.  It’s not better tasting dehydrated foods or better freeze-drying technology. Rather, the U.S. Army has developed the world’s most cutting edge sandwich, one that can be served fresh after sitting on the shelf for two full years.

Cherpumple_ll_111123_wblog

Behold the Cherpumple!

For Charles Phoenix, the turducken apparently wasn’t enough. The turkey stuffed with duck stuffed with chicken – an increasingly popular Thanksgiving treat – was in need of a dessert counterpart.

Phoenix, a humorist from Los Angeles, describes his creation on his website this way: “Cherpumple is short for CHERry, PUMpkin and apPLE pie. The apple pie is baked in spice cake, the pumpkin in yellow and the cherry in white.”
Hmm.
He further explained that the inspiration came from the typical dessert table at his family’s holiday celebrations…

Allowing children to be picky eaters could make them more prone to allergies.

Mothers have traditionally been told to ‘cocoon’ their children by avoiding high-risk foods during pregnancy and while breastfeeding to protect them from potentially dangerous reactions. But allowing kids to be picky eaters could make them more prone to allergies later in life, scientists have warned.

pink beer bacon ale

Yikes!

Continuing the tradition of making every food product ever taste like bacon, Rogue has released a beer that’s sure to be Homer Simpson approved. Called the Voodoo Doughnut, this ale is bacon maple flavored, and comes in a horrifyingly pink bottle. Getting drunk first thing in the morning never tasted so good!
