Sørensen is blindfolded but he instantly recognizes what he is touching. Round. Hard. Breakable. Lethargic sensory nerves, rusty and unused since an accident nine years ago, begin to stir.

Aeromotions builds computer-controlled racecar wings. The use carbon fiber to make those wings both strong and lightweight. Carbon fiber is the material of choice for many advanced motorsports parts. The problem is that making custom racecar parts out of carbon fiber is daunting. The only real method available is the expensive and difficult process of laying up carbon fiber pieces by hand.

Jeabyun Yeon, a South Korean designer, just unveiled a conceptual scuba mask that would allow divers to breathe underwater without oxygen tanks. The mask, called the Triton, consists of two branching arms designed to serve as “gills” that extract oxygen from the water and deliver breathable air directly into their wearer’s lungs. Instead of hauling around heavy scuba equipment, swimmers could simply bite down on a plastic mouth piece.

Amprius raises $30 million to develop high-energy silicon batteries

The startup, Amprius is working on a new type of long-lasting lithium-ion batteries for laptops and electric vehicles. The company has started to sell its batteries for use in portable electronics. Amprius recently raised $30 million in venture capital to develop its next-generation batteries, which use high-energy silicon electrodes. The company says the batteries will store about 50 percent more energy than the battery cells in today’s electric vehicles.

Nanoport lets you connect and and charge your devices with magnets

Nanoport’s magnetic links will let people attach two phones together for a single larger screen.

Nano Magnetics, a magnetic toy maker, announced a technology Tuesday called Nanoport. The Nanoport is designed to let people link small phone displays into a single larger one, snap phones onto car dashboards, and easily link them to other devices.
