Grain harvesters have been called combines since the 1930’s.  They were called combines because they combined the harvesting machines, the binder and the stationary threshing machine. The Tribine takes it one step further as it combines the two historic harvest functions with a third – the grain cart, according to Ben Dillon, the developer of the machine.

Kickstarter’s massive leap into forefront of indie innovation

Like YouTube, Facebook, or blogging platforms, it’s almost hard to believe there was an Internet without Kickstarter, which may be the greatest testament to its success. In 2009, the site generated about $23 million for its projects–an impressive figure by all accounts–but in 2012, Kickstarter pulled in roughly 10 times that, leapfrogging the grant budget of the National Endowment for the Arts. First ‘bionic eye’ implants will hit the U.S. market this year

The treatment involves electrodes implanted in the eyes of people whose retinas are damaged.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first treatment that can restore (limited) eyesight to (some) blind people, last week.  It’s an exciting milestone, despite the caveats.

Crazyflie is a nippy new quadrocopter and has just been made available for pre-order by Sweden’s Bitcraze. Unlike other pint-sized fliers like the (yet to be released) NanoQ and MeCam, this impressive-looking critter won’t arrive in one piece and all ready to fly. Instead, Crazyflie is being made available as a self-build quadrocopter development and hacking kit.
