Robin Speronis lives off the grid in Florida, completely independent of the city’s water and electric system. A few weeks ago, officials ruled her off-grid home illegal. Officials cited the International Property Maintenance Code, which mandates that homes be connected to an electricity grid and a running water source.
For many more people than realize it, electric cars are already adequate for their needs and better than a gasmobile for their bank account and quality of life. However, it often isn’t good enough for disruptive technology to be better than the incumbents. It has to be much better. The target for electric cars, in order to meet that challenge, is a very long-range and affordable electric car. That would bring electric car convenience to another level, and leave gasmobiles with not a single actual advantage over electric cars, compared to nearly 10 for electric cars.
Deer Trail will vote on October 8th on whether to issue permits to hunt drones.
The tiny plains town of Deer Trail, Colorado doesn’t have much to offer visitors. The town has a gas station, a bar and a small-time rodeo one weekend a year. But it is considering a proposal to make itself a national attraction for gun enthusiasts and people skeptical of government surveillance. Citizens of Deer Trail will vote on Oct. 8 on whether to issue permits to hunt drones.
Once the retailer has a phone number, they have an identity.
We all feel violated when companies dig deeper into your pockets than you want. New technology is letting brick-and-mortar stores invade shoppers’ pockets for personal information more than ever before. Retailers have unprecedented access to shoppers’ habits with the stores ability to track customers cell phones. They can track how frequently a customer visits a store to how long he stands at a window display before deciding whether or not to enter the shop.
Working day and night in his backyard workshop, energy pioneer Phil Watts has developed a significant number of breakthrough power technologies, but none quite as significant as the “virtual battery.”
The Virtual Battery Hybrid is an aggregation of 4 technologies; Thermoelectric power generation, solar thermal, ground loops and Nanofluid heat transfer fluid. This technology is currently part of the Colorado Innovation Challenge where people can vote on their favorite energy technology.
3D printers allow people to print guns, but just because we have the ability to do so doesn’t mean that we have to. But, of course, there will be someone who is going to do it. And that somebody isn’t just going to print their own guns, but they’re going to make it their cause, and devote their time and energy to making sure other people can too. That person, in America today, is 25-year-old Cody R. Wilson.
A Virginia House panel approved, last week, a two-year moratorium on drone use within the state. In December, the City Council in Berkeley debated a similar proposal from its Peace and Justice Commission. The Peace and Justice Commission wanted to prohibit the city from purchasing, borrowing, testing or using drones, or allowing “drones in transit.” However, hobbyists would have been allowed to use drones which didn’t carry cameras or audio surveillance equipment. The legislation was shot down because, as Berkeley Councilman Gordon Wozniak argued, “Berkeley doesn’t have jurisdiction over its airspace and can’t enforce it unless we buy Patriot missiles to shoot things down.” Both of these bills were prompted by law enforcement officials wanting to use drones for surveillance and intelligence gathering. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) calls this “spying.”
Futurist Thomas Frey: It may sound silly to walk into a bar and order up a beer with a weed chaser or to open a late night box of cereal called “Weedies” to help you sleep, but that is exactly the era we’re entering.
