A majority of adults suffer from childhood amnesia.  They are unable to remember infancy or toddlerhood. That’s what scientists thought. But a new study indicates that even six years after the fact, a small percentage of tots as young as 2 can recall a unique event .

Brains of children from violent homes function same as combat soldiers

Witnessing violence can have a traumatic effect on the brain.

Scientists at the University College of London (UCL) and the Anna Freud Center liken the impact of family violence on the brains of children to the brains of soldiers exposed to combat. Both kinds of combat result in hypersensitivity to danger and put subjects at risk for developing anxiety disorders.

Picky eaters more prone to develop allergies

Allowing children to be picky eaters could make them more prone to allergies. 

Mothers have traditionally been told to ‘cocoon’ their children by avoiding high-risk foods during pregnancy and while breastfeeding to protect them from potentially dangerous reactions. But allowing kids to be picky eaters could make them more prone to allergies later in life, scientists have warned.

Children should be routinely tested for high cholesterol.

9 to 11 year old children should be routinely screened for high cholesterol so that action can be taken to avoid the development of heart disease, according to new guidelines from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Some parents are fearful of having their children vaccinated but they are being warned by a federal prosecutor that making a deal with a stranger who promises to mail them lollipops licked by children with chickenpox isn’t just a bad idea, it’s against the law.
