Researchers discover a pattern to the seemingly random distribution of prime numbers

The pattern has a surprising similarity to the one seen in atom distribution in crystals.

Often known as “the building blocks of mathematics,” prime numbers have fascinated mathematicians for centuries due to their highly unpredictable and seemingly random nature. However, a team of researchers at Princeton University have recently discovered a strange pattern in the primes’ chaos. Their novel modelling techniques revealed a surprising similarity between primes and certain naturally occurring crystalline materials, a similarity that may carry significant implications for physics and materials science.

QD TV that can be rolled up and carried in a pocket coming soon

3D

Forget about 3D.

Coming soon: the QD TV.  British scientists say they have developed a technology which they claim could be used to produce TV that can be rolled up and carried in a pocket. The scientists  at Manchester University have actually developed a new form of light-emitting crystals, known as quantum dots, (QD) which can be used to produce ultra-thin televisions.

Inventing the Rocking Chair Tree

Futurist Thomas Frey:  On Tuesday evening we had a packed audience at the DaVinci Institute to discuss the future of micro farming. Admittedly, we weren’t terribly well organized and the range of topics we touched on were far more than most of us could reasonably consider in a single setting. But for those who took part in the discussion groups, some amazing ideas came to light.

The Scala Bio-Fir tights and leggings zap toxins and fat with in-built thermal crystals which claim to increase blood flow

It sounds just too good to be true – leggings which melt away cellulite.  But this is what new hi-tech legwear can apparently do for women simply by heating up their skin with a ‘wonder yarn’ embedded with bio-crystals.  Makers of the Scala Bio-Fir leggings and tights claim they could slim hips and thighs by as much as an inch.

Designer Hussein Chalayan – Wearable, Portable Architecture

Designer Hussein-Chalayan - Wearable, Portable Architecture

Is it fashion or is it furniture?

Twice awarded Designer of the Year, UK native Hussein-Chalayan doesn’t have the typical background you’d come to expect of a fashion designer – in fact, he’s a tech geek who’s translated his knowledge into fashion and that certainly comes across in his unique designs.
On exhibit now at the Design Museum in the UK until May 17th, one of Chalayan’s exhibits have visitors to the museum asking, is it fashion or is it furniture? (Pics)

Growing Natural Crystal Furniture

Growing Natural Crystal Furniture

Tokujin Yoshioka’s chair made from growing natural crystals will headline the exhibition Second Nature opening on the 17th in Tokyo this month. The Venus chair builds on his earlier work such as Honey-pop (2001) which used a honeycombed paper structure to obtain it’s strength and the Pane chair (2006) made of a translucent spongy material called polyester elastomer. The Venus chair is grown in a tank, the production process half controlled by Yoshioka and half left up to nature.
