American households’ spending on housing is on average 33% of their annual expenses, but until recently we didn’t have data to show the differences in costs between monthly mortgage payments versus rent.

The population of Philadelphia shrank by a quarter between 1970 and 1990. Philadelphia’s population dropped from 1.95 to 1.59 million during that time period. Like many American cities, it seemed caught in a downward spiral.

Airbnb is estimated to be worth $2.5 billion. Uber’s valuation is rumored to be $3.5 billion.
