This $130,000 self-deploying building can unfold in just eight minutes


Building a home or temporary shelter by hand can be both time-consuming and expensive.

Ten Fold Engineering, a housing startup based in the UK, has created self-deploying buildings that can pop up in a matter of eight minutes. Owners push a button, and the rooms fold out like an accordion using a counterbalance system.

Ecobitat – Skyscraper with Portable Housing



As the space in our cities disappears little by little, a young architect named Felipe Campolina, came up with a solution, which not only is beautiful it also minimizes the impact on nature. Felipe inspired himself from a movement in Japan postwar. In the 50s, there was a group of architects called Metabolist. They worked with prefabricated units. Having this noted down, Felipe started the design of a portable house unit.  (pics)
