Sheep aren’t as stupid as previously thought, according to researchers. Never considered particularly intelligent, sheep are actually so smart they make ‘executive decisions’ and have long memories, remembering friends for two years.
A New Way To Get Wool
The new breed, called Exlana, is being developed by farmers in South West England to lose their woolly coats automatically in Spring.
Now, instead of spending precious time and money shearing their sheep, they now simply wait for the light coats to ‘moult’ in the fields.
The wool, which is shorter and more sparse than a traditional British sheep, begins shedding around the animal’s neck and legs, often leaving a temporary patch in the middle.
An Abomination of Nature or a Mutation Caused by Blind Industrialization?
A sheep gave birth to a dead lamb with a human-like face. The lamb was born in a village not far from the city of Izmir, Turkey.
Erhan Elibol, a vet, performed a caesarean on the animal to take the lamb out, but was horrified to see that the features of the lamb’s snout bore a striking resemblance to a human face.
“I’ve seen mutations with cows and sheep before. I’ve seen a one-eyed calf, a two-headed calf, a five-legged calf. But when I saw this youngster I could not believe my eyes. His mother could not deliver him so I had to help the animal,” the 29-year-old veterinary said.
