Hearing about flying cars conjure up images of a sporty little number that takes to the air like something out of the Jetsons. But what about one that’s a cross between a 4×4, an octocopter, and a Blackhawk helicopter? That’s what Advanced Tactics of El Segundo, California is seeing with its ambitions to produce a roadable VTOL aircraft capable of unmanned autonomous operations as a more flexible way to recover casualties, move supplies, and support special forces. FAA, AMA looking at safety guidelines for private drones

FAA asked the AMA for help in coming up with guidelines for UAS (unmanned aircraft systems).

The world of model planes has come a long way from simple remote-controlled toys. In response to these changes in technology, the FAA has asked a group of model aircraft enthusiasts, The Academy for Model Aeronautics (AMA), to work with the organization in developing new guidelines for safely flying such vehicles.

Amprius raises $30 million to develop high-energy silicon batteries

The startup, Amprius is working on a new type of long-lasting lithium-ion batteries for laptops and electric vehicles. The company has started to sell its batteries for use in portable electronics. Amprius recently raised $30 million in venture capital to develop its next-generation batteries, which use high-energy silicon electrodes. The company says the batteries will store about 50 percent more energy than the battery cells in today’s electric vehicles.

Nano Magnetics, a magnetic toy maker, announced a technology Tuesday called Nanoport. The Nanoport is designed to let people link small phone displays into a single larger one, snap phones onto car dashboards, and easily link them to other devices.
