Top digital priorities for retail are site conversion and mobile: Study

There are more effective and efficient digital tactics to invest in than social media.

A Forrester Research and shop.org study done recently reveals that site conversion and mobile are a far higher priority for retailers than social media for 2013. The reason for this is both orthodox and unconventional: the data supports these tactics.

Will the library of the future have books?

Some libraries around the world are changing.

While most of the 100,000+ libraries in the U.S. will likely continue to function as they always have, moving books around shelves and holding areas, to and from patrons — at least for the foreseeable future — some libraries around the world are changing and this could be the start of a trend.

Adding more artificial intelligence to online learning could make it faster and more fun

More artificial intelligence will make online learning faster and fun.

Udacity has evolved the MOOC (massive open online courses) concept into one that really helps people throughout the course; to complete the course. The most recent completion rates in pilots we’ve been running have been 85 percent, as opposed to 5 percent or 4 percent, which is common in MOOC-land.

Tesla’s Model S factory is run by 160 high-tech robots

The conceptual Hyperloop transit system by Elon Musk imagines shuttling passengers back and forth between Los Angeles and San Francisco in an insanely fast half hour.  It might be the futuristic transport system of the moment. Yet it’s the billionaire’s other ventures, like SpaceX and Tesla Motors, that continue to make real technological strides.

Dry cleaner uses drones to deliver clothes to customers

Philadelphia’s Manayunk Cleaners is trying drones to deliver clothes to it’s customers.  The drone is a modified DJI Phantom quadcopter, which is a commercially available drone capable of carrying about 1 or 2 pounds. Clothes on hangers are attached to a hanging clip on the drone’s legs, while the drone buzzes along through the air.

Kremlin switches back to typewriters to avoid computer leaks

Each typewriter has a unique, individual pattern of type that would make it easy to trace it back to the source.

The Kremlin has switched back to old-fashioned typewriters to avoid leaking of sensitive information because of leaks like WikiLeaks.. Russia’s Federal Guard Service plans to spend 486,000 rubles to buy a number of electric typewriters.

Reaction Engine’s Skylon could fly anywhere in the world in 4 hours

What the Reaction Engines’ Skylon aircraft taking off will look like.

Reaction Engines, a British aerospace firm, is working on an aircraft it believes would be able to take passengers anywhere in the world in just four hours.  The vehicle would also be able to fly in outer space. (Video)
