How it works.

Search “beauty” in Yossarian, the metaphorical search engine, and it returns pictures of men shaking hands, a little boy dressed as a super hero, and burning money. Keep scrolling and new understandings of “beauty” pop up.

The most dangerous ‘date rape drug’ by far – alcohol

alcohol

The substance most commonly associated with drug-facilitated sexual assault is alcohol.

Last month, the news that a nail polish was being developed to detect “date rape drugs,” created a media furor, attracting praise and skepticism in roughly equal measure. But this is not the first product that claims to detect drugs added surreptitiously to drinks. In recent years, others have included coasters, straws and glasses.

Nick Hanauer, venture capitalist and author

An unrepentant capitalist and rich guy, Nick Hanauer has something to say to his fellow plutocrats: Wake up! Growing inequality is about to push our societies into conditions resembling pre-revolutionary France. Hear his argument about why a dramatic increase in minimum wage could grow the middle class, deliver economic prosperity … and prevent a revolution. (Video)

We could all have ‘digital twins’ that make decisions for us within 5 years

Woman Looking at Reflection

Talking to your digital twin could one day be like looking in the mirror.

“When you and I die, our kids aren’t going to go to our tombstones, they’re going to fire up our digital twins and talk to them,” says John Smart, futurist and founder of the Acceleration Studies Foundation. We can call this the summer of the Ice Bucket Challenge with videos of shivering people flooding social feeds around the world. And what a summer it was: we saw epic stunts, epic fails, quirky twists and a whole lot of celebrities. We learned a lot about the strange connections between famous people (Bill Gates knows Ryan Seacrest?). The IBC craze even resulted in a couple of marriage proposals. And it’s all in the name of charity: Since July 29, 2014 the ALS Foundation reported more than $115 million in Ice Bucket Challenge donations.
