A smartphone case that helps the visually impaired by enhancing their awareness of their surroundings has been developed by Samsung. The Ultrasonic Cover for its Galaxy Core Advance smartphone helps owners sense the presence of people and objects up to two meters away.

Amanda Boxtel suffered a vicious skiing accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down in 1992. Doctors said she would never walk again. This week, with the help of the world’s first 3D printed exoskeleton that gives her the ability to climb out of her wheelchair and walk once again she proved the doctors wrong. Philips has just unveiled an innovative urban beehive that enables anyone to harvest fresh hone at home. The pod-like accessory attaches to a hole cut into a pane of glass, and once secured, you’ll be able to peer into the hive while the white entryway on the outside would allow the bees the freedom come and go. Simply pull a small cord and fresh honey will come pouring out.

Scent Rhythm is a new watch concept designed by artist Aisen Caro Chacin that does away with all those pesky minutes and seconds and hours witch dominate our lives. The watch replaces them with four scents — one for each six-hour period of the day. The scents are designed to mimic and encourage our own internal circadian rhythms, which govern the human cycle of sleep and awake. (Photos)

FDA approves PillCam, an alternative to the traditional colonoscopy

The FDA has approved the PillCam for use as an alternative for patients who are unable to have a complete colonoscopy.  The pill-shaped capsule has a camera on both ends. It navigates through your intestines over an eight-hour period, taking high-speed images that are sent to a device worn by a patient that are later examined by a doctor. (Video)
