Sapientia University has created a series of online videos that illustrate different sorting algorithms using folk dances:

What you have to do is just check that they are in fact implementing the algorithm correctly. The dancers have numbers stuck on their front and they do seem to look down and examine the value on another dancer before performing the dance routine dictated by the algorithm…

Detroit’s Population Shrank 25% in Last Decade

The Motor City’s engine is dying. Detroit’s population shrank by more than 25% in the last decade, according to Census statistics reported in the New York Times. The city’s population fell to 713,777 in 2010, a drop of almost 240,000 residents. That’s 100,000 more than Katrina-ravaged New Orleans lost.

The Longest Film Of All-Time Screening In Helsinki, Finland

Screening the longest film of all time.

Superflex, a group of Danish artists, have created a 240-hour film titled Modern Times Forever (Stora Enso Building, Helsinki) and will screen it in Helsinki for the festival IHME Project 2011.

The film shows ‘ravages of time marking a box-like office block, Helsinki’s Stora Enso building,’ and they are in fact projecting the film on that same building. In the film, ‘centuries of decay are apparently compressed into the span’ of the 10-day runtime…
