Chop Stick

Architects Anders Berensson and Ulf Mejergren of VisionDivision from Sweden have been commissioned to design Chop Stick, a concession stand for 100 Acres: The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. They “sacrificed” a beautiful 100 foot poplar, to demonstrate how to make something new efficiently and respectfully. (Pics)

‘Track therapy’ – Indonesians risk lives in latest health craze

Indonesians lay across railroad tracks in the belief the current wil cure them of their illnesses.

Despite the danger and the efforts by authorities in Jakarta to halt the craze, Indonesians with illnesses have been lying down across railway lines in the mistaken belief that a low-voltage electric current in the tracks will cure them as it passes through their bodies. (pics and video)

Blu, an Italian street artist, is no stranger to controversy. You may remember his mural at the MOCA that was taken down. It was in an area of downtown that neighbors a Veterans Affairs hospital and a war memorial to Japanese American soldiers, the provocative anti-war piece showed coffins draped with dollar bills instead of flags. Castle made entirely of human hair

“I Wanted To Be A Princess” series used clumps of hair to create 3,000 bricks.

Designers have utilized human hair in an incredible range of applications from sunglasses to dresses, product packaging and even woven mats that keeps weeds from growing in lawns.  Artists like Agustina Woodgate have also taken note.  She has transformed strands from countless heads into a hair bricks that she uses to construct gigantic castles. “Perfected television and radio telephone combined!”

Seagram’s advertised its VO Canadian whiskey back in the mid-1940’s with a series of extremely manly magazine ads about “Men Who Plan Beyond Tomorrow”. They were unspecified futuristic thinkers who liked the fact that Seagram’s was patient enough to age VO for six years. Each of the ads depicted a different miracle that would transform postwar America and they were glorious.  (Pics)
