There are 8.8 million part time workers wanting full time jobs.

The unemployment rate in the U.S. is 9.1 percent but the job market is actually worse than that.  The 14 million unemployed in the U.S. aren’t just competing with each other they are also competing with the 8.8 million people that are part-timers who want full-time work.

Negotiation is worthless. Sales is everything.

I’m a pretty good salesman, but I’m the worst negotiator. If I say, “buy my car for $10,000” and someone says “$8,000,” I’d just shrug my shoulders and say “ok”. In fact, that happened.

Some people could be good at both. But I think it’s very hard. By definition. When you’re a salesman you want the other guy to say “yes.” When you’re a negotiator you have to be willing to say “no”, regardless of what the other side says.

So although they aren’t total opposites, the goals are completely different. But big picture:

Scientists have identified the part of the brain responsible for controlling whether we conform to expectations and group pressure.

The researchers found they were able to control whether volunteers conformed to social pressure by using powerful electromagnetic pulses that changed the activity of a small part of the brain.
