Reno’s economy relies on gaming and tourism, two industries which have been hit extremely hard by the recession.

December 2007 is when the Great Recession officially began and it officially ended in July 2009. But that doesn’t mean the economy has returned to where it was before the steepest downturn since the Great Depression and may not for years. Employment is not expected to return to its pre-recession peak until 2014, according to a recent report by IHS Global Insight.

Nationwide crackdown unemployment insurance fraud

The poor economy lingers and the jobless rate remaining high.

States will start a nationwide crackdown for people fraudulently drawing unemployment payments.  $17 billion in were dswindle last year alone  from those who were never eligible and workers who keep getting checks after they return to work,  say federal officials.

Human hair has been turned into sustainalbe eyewear by two Royal College of Art students, Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves.  Petroleum-based plastic or energy-intensive wire frames are a necessary evil for those who are not blessed with 20/20 vision.  “Hair glasses,” however, tap into a readily available and renewable resource: the millions of pounds of hair cuttings that salons across the United Kingdom throw away each year.

Airplanes can alter weather increasing chances of rain and snow: Study

Aircraft increase the chances of snow or rain when they punch holes in clouds after taking off.

Airplanes can influence local weather when they take off and land.  Aircraft increase the chances of snow and rain during take off and landing, according to a  new study, published in the ‘Science’ journal. The finding is based on satellite images of clouds around airports.
