Then you need a chair to reach the ceiling to hold down that impossibly tiny red button, which never seems to silence the wailing device. Should the US ditch the classic red “exit” sign and replace it with a green man? There are arguments both for and against. For the red:
The contrast between the letters and the background renders it highly legible, the illumination stresses the importance of the message, and the color is evocative of both fire and fire-safety devices (fire extinguishers, fire engines, fire alarms, and the like).
But in other parts of the world, pictograms rule. The “running man” sign was designed by Yukio Ota and adopted internationally for exits a quarter century ago!
The sign’s wordlessness means it can be understood even by people who don’t speak the local language. And the green color, they argue, just makes sense. Green is the color of safety, a color that means go the world over. Red, on the other hand, most often means danger, alert, halt, please don’t touch. Why confuse panicked evacuees with a sign that means right this way in a color that means stop?

The heat source is a pair of headlights. A car door alarm signals emergencies. An auto air filter and fan provide climate control. But this contraption has nothing to do with transportation. It is a sturdy, low-cost incubator, designed to keep vulnerable newborns warm during the first fragile days of life.
Clock radios don’t get any greener than this. Minute Glass is a clock radio powered by magnetic induction so there’s no need for batteries or electricity at all. It wakes you up in the morning with music, and its alarm won’t turn off until you’ve shaken it enough to power it for another day. That ought to be enough movement to wake up even the most hungover sleepers.

Getting out of bed in the morning is one of my hates. Rather then wake up I’d rather just ignore the alarm clock by leaning over to put it on snooze. The Danger Bomb Clock might change this bad habit though as it requires you to defuse a bomb every morning.

Patent #4,764,111 comes with a magnet on the braces that shut off the alarm. It involves the use of an orthodontic headgear and the wearer is usually a teenager (who has to find space for it with all the walkman and other head paraphernalia kids tote around these days). The headgear is awkward and uncomfortable, not to mention very undemocratic.
