The ‘nanodegree’ – A new type of college degree created by AT&T and Udacity

AT&T and the online education provider Udacity have partnered to create the “nanodegree,” a new type of college degree similar to the Micro Colleges that Futurist Thomas Frey predicted. The vocationally focused nanodegree is designed to be a lifelong learning portfolio that would be widely recognized by the tech industry and far cheaper to obtain.

AT&T researchers create app to track your teenager’s driving habits

The app could also monitor an elderly driver’s aptitude over time.

AT&T researchers have created a system that reports on drivers’ real-time behavior and long-term driving trends by merging data from cars’ onboard computers and drivers’ smart phones.  It also reveals whether a particular mistake might have been caused by phone use.

FCC Chief puts the kibosh on AT&T/T-Mobile merger

FCC chairman, Julius Genachowski, issued a draft statement yesterday lashing out against AT&T’s proposed acquisition of T-Mobile, calling its concentration of the wireless market contrary to the public interest. He’s also requested an administrative hearing, placing the onus on AT&T to prove the deal benign to wireless consumers…

The proposed $39 billion  merger of AT&T and T-Mobile could save the companies a lot of money. For everyone else, it could cost a lot of money. No sooner did the two companies announce a $39 billion merger on Sunday than industry analysts began assessing the impact on the biggest potential losers in the deal: consumers.
