Wang Xianjun, 54, of Sichuan Province, started to snack on broken glass because he says it is ‘crispy and delicious.’

He recalls: “I accidentally swallowed a piece of thick fish bone, but nothing happened. With curiosity, I tried several pieces of broken glasses secretly and nothing happened also.”

Everything is Better with Lasers 

What if you could take a regular incandescent lightbulb, zap it with a powerful laser for a small fraction of a second, and make it about twice as efficient as a regular lightbulb? That seems to be what researchers at the University of Rochester did. What does the laser do? It creates an “array of nano- and micro-scale structures on the surface of [the] regular tungsten filament-the tiny wire inside a light bulb-and these structures make the tungsten become far more effective at radiating light.”

With geeks all over the world testing the supremacy of technology and pushing its frontiers, simple yet useful devices are going through a major facelift. An innovation of today becomes an object of daily use in a matter of few years. This time, it’s the turn of lighting devices. General Electric Co. has come up with a machine that can prints sheets of light. The flexible sheets are coated with a layer of OLEDs and other chemicals which run 8-inch wide with a final layer of metal foil to guard the mixture. It emits a blue-white glow on having passed electric current through it.
