Lex folding wearable chair lets you take a seat anywhere

Imagine if anytime, anywhere you felt a little fatigued in the legs you could simply lean back and take a load off? The developers of Lex are working towards such a future with a folding exoskeleton that turns into an ergonomic chair in just a few seconds.

Lex is much like Chairless Chair we looked at back in March, in that it is essentially a seat that you wear and carry around with you. Where the Chairless Chair is aimed at factory workers in need of respite, Lex seems to be designed with all day, everyday use in mind.

Adhering to its owner with just a waist strap and two leg straps, Lex is made from aircraft-grade aluminum and weighs just over a kilogram (2.2 lb). When the user is on the go, it folds up into a neat, slimline package that allows full freedom of movement.

Holes on the Floor? They’re Chairs!

DAV hole-ground-chair-decker-yeadon

The new shape of sitting spaces?

Old and busted: sitting on the floor
The new hotness: sitting on a hole in the floor!

The OOoo chair is the brainchild of the design firm Decker Yeadon. It’s basically a set of holes in the floor where you can slip your legs into and, well, sit down:

You can easily make your own OOoo Chair if you have a wooden floor and a basement….

Professor X Chair Dispenses Vodka, Announces Presence with Arduino Sounds and Smoke

prof x chair 23

This fully-functional wheelchair comes complete with, well, everything I could possibly think of that’s necessary for something to be called a Steampunk Professor X chair. Vodka cranberry dispenser? Yes. Booming Arduino/Adafruit sound effects? Sure! Working smokestack? Why, yes!

Better still, there’s video of the creator tooling around a model railroad museum, confusing and fascinating bystanders with his booze-dealing contraption of wonder. And yes, builder Daniel Valdez looks like Professor X:

The levitating chair hovers a few inches above the ground and was designed by Japanese engineers for the elderly.

Kirk’s Chair Is Now Avaliable For Your Home

Beam me up Scotty. Maybe not but hey would be cool to have a little piece of star trek geekdom for your room.

I’ve always wondered why there were never seat-belts for each chair on the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise. I mean, it would save all of that flying around and smashing into things. You know every member of the crew has bruises, just due to not having a seat-belt on their chairs.

On the flip side, however, I’ve never thought that the Captain’s chair ever needed a seat-belt. Particularly Kirk’s. C’mon. Kirk was made of steel, man. A seat-belt would be an insult to him.

So when I saw this, I was happy that they had not retro-fitted it with a protective belt:
Comfy? Not sure. Cool? Hell, yeah.Comfy? Not sure. Cool? Hell, yeah. Continue reading… “Kirk’s Chair Is Now Avaliable For Your Home”

Hoverit Lounger Floats On A Bed Of Magnets

Comfy and Calming or Cold and Uncaring?

As corny or cold as it may look, the Hoverit Lounger, an uncomfortable acrylic chair repelled aloft by powerful magnets, piques my rump’s curiosity. Would I be too heavy for its magnets? Would I sway gently up and down on the stabilizing arms or would I find equilibrium and remain relatively motionless? Could I get my fingers caught in something as it rose up?

Pedispa – Multifunction Massage Chair

The last thing I would want in my living room is another family member stewing their bare feet in a bowl of warm water, but that’s the idea behind the Red Pedispa from T4. Still, combining a multifunction massage chair with a foot spa does sound like a pretty decadent way to relax after a hard day pounding the pavement.
