Inside the bitter war to bring Tupac and Michael Jackson back to life

Dead celebrities reincarnated as holograms are big business – and, for two startups looking for fame and fortune, a source of untapped millions

A black curtain raises, the sound of a helicopter rotor fades and there he is. Surrounded by body-painted dancers, wearing a gold jacket and sitting on a throne at the centre of an ornate tableau. A flash brings the scene to life before Michael Jackson, five years after his death, makes his way down the steps on to the Las Vegas stage and proceeds to sing and dance his way through a previously unreleased song called “Slave to the Rhythm”.

Counterfeit driver’s licenses look so real they’re dangerous

 fake ids

To the naked eye — even the practiced eye of most bartenders and police officers — the counterfeits look perfect.

A phony South Carolina driver’s license was found in the hip pocket of 20-year-old Craig Eney after the fleeing motorcycle he was driving hit a curb, scraping past a utility pole hurling him to his death.

Zebra Imaging sells holographic prints and their main customer has been the Defense Department.

When the famous hologram of Princess Leia says, “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi,” in “Star Wars,” it’s science fiction. Now you can watch actual moving holograms that are filmed in one spot and then projected and viewed in another spot.

Now you can enjoy 3D imaging right on your desk with this interesting holographic display ‘Holocube 3D Projection Box’. It sports an integrated HDD that stores video and uses it to create 3D Holograms at a resolution of 1080i. It won’t produce a Princess in trouble, telling you that you are her only hope. Nor will it let you talk to your Sith lord or Sith apprentice in real time.

MIT Developing Super Realistic 6-D Imaging Device

MIT Developing Super Realistic 6-D Imaging Device

3-D images? Peshaw. Those are so 2007. What humanity needs now is what MIT researchers hope to provide very soon: super realistic “passive 6-D reflectance field displays” that not only look great, but also respond to stimuli, like lighting conditions. And, not only will these uber images do all that and a bag of chips, they’ll be able to change over time as lighting conditions change, with “no electronics or active control” from we mere humans. Oh, and the displays will respond the changes in viewpoint, meaning these visual wonders will have a creepy degree of interactivity to them too (read: legitimate holograms).
