Should coding schools have free enrollment under Obama’s new free community college initiative?

imrs.php

If the fundamental premise of President Obama’s new initiative to make community college free is to open up career and life opportunities for the nation’s young — especially those from underprivileged backgrounds — then the federal government should also be thinking of ways to cover the tuition costs of individuals attending coding boot camps. Instead of paying for a two-year community college program, the government could instead get more bang for less buck by paying for a 12-week program. That’s something that the nation’s first coding president should understand.

The data crunchers who helped Obama win the election

Obama’s data crunchers.

The backroom data crunchers who powered Barack Obama’s campaign to victory noticed last spring that George Clooney had an almost gravitational tug on West Coast females ages 40 to 49. The women were far and away the single demographic group most likely to hand over cash, for a chance to dine in Hollywood with Clooney — and Obama.

The program was supposed to train 125,000 workers, but only 53,000 have been “trained” so far.

The story of the green jobs subisdy gets more embarrassing by the day. President Obama promised three years ago that by the end of the decade America would have five million green jobs, but so far some $90 billion in government spending has delivered very few.

The student loan default rate for fiscal 2009 surged to 8.8%, up from 7% in 2008.

Two years ago critics warned that government-backed student loan defaults would rise.  The question was how soon would taxpayers feel the pain.  This month, the U.S. Department of Education provided part of the answer when it reported that the default rate for fiscal 2009 surged to 8.8%, up from 7% in 2008.

breastfeeding moms

IRS says breastfeeding expenses are tax write-offs.

Breastfeeding is easier on the planet because formula takes energy to produce, transport, and it wastes space in landfills. Not to mention that breastfeeding is the most natural means of giving your baby the best possible start. Michelle Obama even promoted breastfeeding as a means of reducing childhood obesity down the line. And most recently, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced tax breaks for breastfeeding moms.

It’s Official: More Private Sector Jobs Created in 2010 than During Entire Bush Years

JobsPrivateSector

The September jobs report was just released and demonstrates that America is on a far slower path to recovery than anyone originally predicted. Despite this, the shedding of government jobs cloaks a glimmer of hope: more private sector jobs have been created this year than during the entire Bush administration. Read that again: 2010 has had more private job creation than during the entire 8 year tenure of George W. Bush.

True, it’s still a lot like being a judge at a skunk stinking competition, but maybe, just maybe, there is a glimmer of hope.

This is the 9th straight month of private sector job growth in the midst of a devastating recession that has put a serious strain mostly on the poor and middle class. There has been a total of 863,000 private sector jobs created in 2010, exceeding the total created under the Bush/Cheney regime…
