30% of U.S. adults still don’t have broadband: Pew Research

70% of adults in the U.S. reported having broadband access.

Pew Research has released the results of a survey that shows how one of the more advanced countries in the world, the U.S., is still not quite there in leading by example: 20% of U.S. adults are still without broadband or smartphones for internet access. And 3% of people in the country still using dial-up connections.

Teens getting tired of Facebook drama: Pew study

Teens are leaving Facebook and turning to Twitter.

Teens find Facebook to be more an extension of their daily interactions at school and home than a place where they can relax and be themselves, according to the latest data from Pew. The unease the teens are feeling isn’t from concerns about third parties accessing their data, or even their parents discovering unflattering photos — it’s from the “drama” that goes along with maintaining a presence on the network, including jockeying for likes, agonizing over profile pictures, and the politicking and cliques that characterize teenage life.

One third of Americans prefer texting to talking on the phone

73% of cellphone owners text.

Eighty-three percent of American adults own cell phones and 73% send and receive text messages. The Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project asked those texters in a survey how they prefer to be contacted on their cell phone and 31% said they preferred texts to talking on the phone, while 53% said they preferred a voice call to a text message. Another 14% said the contact method they prefer depends on the situation.
